Barns are burning and The cows are on the road Hang my head How'd I get so old? Tonight's New Year's Eve Tomorrow's New Year's Day Well I ain't been dry Since baby went away Gonna go down to Marlowe's Get me good and drowned Call me satisfied Six feet in the ground

# 7 Blues 02:26
Jackson, O Jackson Better lay down low Out from Tennessee To Gulf of Mexico Jackson, O Jackson Aim it straight and true You's a cold-blooded baby From your head to your shoe Jackson, O Jackson Let the doors hang wide Keep a ghost in your head And a gun at your side

In two months We'll fly off Take a plane Overnight to India No more desks No more chalk Only colors Red and green and cardamum Your family will be there And so will mine Wedding bells in the winter Home by summertime Marigolds And sandalwood I'll stand by you darling Just like I said I would Love has struck A match for us Walk the fire Seven times of promises Your family will be there And so will mine Wedding bells in the winter Home by summertime In two months We'll fly off Take a plane Overnight to India

Willie Brown 03:52
Willie Brown Willie Brown Willie Brown where are you? Well, the juke joint is closin' The sky's turnin' black from blue Guitar's in the corner Your bottle's on the floor Lady in the doorway say "You don't come around here no more" Gotta get that railcar Head on to state line Won't be another coming In several hours' time Well, Willie you were my friend Well tell me brother, will I ever see you again? Willie Brown Willie Brown Willie Brown where are you? There's a stone in your pathway And a thorn in your boot

Tie him down Get it wet Put the sponge on his head One last courtesy Before they declare me dead Seven years Waiting for the day I repay my debt Hard time comes to nothing In this chair my fate is strapped And I cry And I pray Boatman, show me the way Ferry me on to the other side Where my soul will stay Three years in Still a shadow of hope Still a chance of running out free ‘til the iron rain Of a guard’s baton Poured down on me Four cracked ribs And a broken nose Made sure that I’d never see A life outside The railroad ties And rotting ceiling beams And I cry And I pray Boatman, show me the way Ferry me on to the other side Where my soul will stay Well I miss the taste Of the Georgia sun Like sweet tea on my face And the lazy lines Of the Southern vines Hangéd high for the crows to taste And if the devil gave me An alibi Instead of the hunger and greed I’d lie beside my July bride Instead I’m kissing cold concrete And I cry And I pray Boatman, show me the way Ferry me on to the other side Where my soul will stay And I cry And I pray Boatman, show me the way Ferry me on to the other side Where my soul will stay

I love to hear you in the morning Stirring at the far side of the bed I know I wake you rather early You'd rather be there sleeping instead The hour holds another wonder The birds are clearing out their throats The sunlight tears the sky asunder I have to share a line I just wrote Darling my darling, Oh darling my darling Leave all those dreams behind Darling my darling, Oh darling my darling Hurry up please, it's time I know you wonder how I'm doing How life will shortly begin For we are only merely human Slave to ceremony and skin The apples have fallen from the orchard Pick me up and never feel ashamed Your silence is a kind of torture Open up and let me hear you say Darling my darling, Oh darling my darling Leave all those dreams behind Darling my darling, Oh darling my darling Hurry up please, it's time The apples have fallen from the orchard Pick me up and never feel ashamed Your silence is a kind of torture Open up and let me hear you say Darling my darling, Oh darling my darling Leave all those dreams behind Darling my darling, Oh darling my darling Hurry up please, it's time

I'm a street rat baby Crawlin' over broken glass Save up my nickels and dimes Sip from your rusted flask I know you ain't no good But baby you're my only home You know these other women don't compare They be my only rag and bone I say please baby I say please let me in It's been raining since last Tuesday I'm soaked right to my skin.

Way of the world is flower and die Peace among the reeds Back to the mud, we sink and cry Peace among the reeds Four along that road will ride Peace among the reeds Way of the world is flower and die Peace among the reeds
9.
Driver won't you tell me where we are I'm in the back of the car This old sun's sinkin' low Hope you know which way to go I feel just like a baby Rocked by the tide No pillars of safety Just a long, twisted ride White lines on the ground Red and blue siren sound Ten miles to the south Kick the trunk Let me out I feel just like a baby Rocked by the tide No pillars of safety Just a long, twisted ride

[...and a one and a two and a big duck soup] I had nothing to eat for nearly forty days Strung out so long, soon I'm gonna fade away Well Adam had Eve to cook him up a sin I'm sitting here, counting all my ribs Big pot roast and a monster prime I'd take mutton over you every time Well, out so long, soon I'm gonna fade away

about

"Rag & Bone Blues" brings Ross Cohen back to an uncluttered, blues-influenced sound. Spare arrangements are peopled with vagrants, lovers, dinner-guests, and one, unfortunate hostage. This is the sound that attracted Ross to music, the sound he hopes will bring you back to "Rag & Bone Blues" again and again.
